What is a Microsoft Certified System Engineer?
A person who possesses the MCSE certification has completed seven exams in networking, design, client operating systems, and another subject of their choice.  In addition to studying MCSE courses, he or she must also have at least one year of experience in designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting networks based on Microsoft Windows Server products.

Why Become Certified as a MCSE?

The credentials of a Microsoft Certified System Engineer say a lot about the person who has earned them.  It shows that he or she has dedicated enough time and effort to the job to take seven exams (and seven MCSE training courses).  These courses cover in-depth information and practical solutions to realistic scenarios.  To hiring managers, a certification by Microsoft indicates that this person is a knowledgeable, serious contender for a job in networking.

What Do MCSE Courses Teach?

MCSE courses come with several options.  You can choose which sever technologies you are most familiar with – MS Windows Server 2000 or 2003.  In addition to the basic exams described above, you can also choose to specialize your certification towards Messaging or Security.  This can be accomplished by studying for and taking additional exams in those subjects.  The Microsoft-approved training course for MCSEs features instruction on the best principles of networking, including server installation, network design, maintenance, troubleshooting, managing web connectivity and access to the network, optimizing server performance, and network security.

Of course, Microsoft offers other certifications.  Now that they have designed programs to keep up with the newest improvements in technology, current Microsoft Certified System Engineers may want to upgrade their certifications to MCITPs (Microsoft Certified IT Professional).  This can be done by passing two more examinations.

Is  MCSE training still valuable? Yes it is.  It is an excellent way to verify your skills and experience in a competitive job market.
